SEPTEMBER 9 2009 PRESS RELEASE:
"The M.E.M.O.R.Y Lab" (feat. ex-FUNERAL ORATION, MALFEITOR members) releases full-length CD debut!

The M.E.M.O.R.Y. Lab are the 'then' brainchild of the 'now' 3-time Grammy award winning sound engineering guru Marc Urselli. Joining him in the ‘lab are Nicola “the Old Nick” Curri, (FUNERAL ORATION) and Fabrizio Giannese (MALFEITOR, ABORYM). Established in Italy 10 years ago, their debut album sees an official CD release on D-TRASH Records, on the unholy date of 09-09-09; Dark and avant-garde, this eerie set of aggro-electro industrial trash metal songs is influenced by bands such as FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, SKINNY PUPPY, THE YOUNG GODS, DAS ICH, MINISTRY, PANTERA, CHRISTIAN DEATH, FEAR FACTORY, CURRENT 93 and various post-black metal bands.

"For something that involved a couple members of the Italian black metal underground, "The Modern Expressing Machines Of Revolutionary Youth is a surprisingly retro throwback to the early industrial metal of WAX TRAX. The past decade has certainly dated the sound of these tracks, but for those of us who still wax nostalgic for the WAX TRAX/INVISIBLE era of industrial heaviness, this is like a long-lost blast from the past, a piece of hidden 90's industro-metal history finally unearthed. M.E.M.O.R.Y. LAB's sound was hardly original, taking bits of MINISTRY, SKINNY PUPPY, FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, PIGFACE and old school drum n' bass mixing it all together with basic thrash metal guitars and some scathing vocals into something that could be compared to a much more accessible version of ABORYM. Those black-clad industrial metal freaks would have gone apeshit for this back in 1994, though. The techno and drum n' bass elements are really prominent, with lots of orchestral synth stabs and electronic effects, and there are a couple of tracks that remind me of some of the newer DODHEIMSGARD stuff, too, though this shit is infinitely more danceable. This is pure old-school industrial metal for fans, a time-warp back to the days of "Land Of Rape And Honey" and REVOLTING COCKS, with just the slightest shades of black metal's influence peeking through...." -CRUCIALBLAST REVIEW

Hi from your friends at D-Trash Records!

Enclosed is a list of upcoming releases on our label in the 2nd half of the year, and a bit of an update on some recent albums. We saw the number of releases coming, and thought to pass along this musical newsletter. A bit out of order with the numbering for our catalogue, but what we lack in organization, we make up for in quality and quantity in these next releases.... Read on, and download the full MP3s (even the previews) for a peek at what's cooking.

ARTIST: Matamachete
ALBUM: Tanin No Kao
LABEL: D-Trash Records
REVIEWER: Matthew J.
DATE: 2-10-09

With their mixture of hard drum 'n' bass beats, aggressive guitars, and punk-inspired shouts (often in Japanese, no less), Swiss group Matamachete are one of the more interesting things to hit the industrial scene of late. "Modus Operandi" opens their newest album with a violent blast pummeling breakbeats, chunky metal guitar riffs, and atonal yelps, something like what you'd imagine Mindless Self Indulgence would sound like if you replaced the juvenile humor with some real punk nihilism. Title track "Tanin No Kao" is brutal but funky, Japanese lyrics barked through a vocoder over gargantuan guitar chords and a rumbling hip-hop rhythm, and "Greed" can't quite decide of it's sexy or angry, pairing a throbbing bass and dirty synth sequence with mean guitars and throat-tearing shrieks. For all its intensity and barely controlled rage, this album has its lighter moments, too. "Brand of the Beast" and "Count Me Out" cross new school metal grooves with hip-hop breaks and a cleaner vocal delivery; they're big and brutal, but there's a funky vibe that's infectious and fun. "Freedom of Choice" actually slows down the electronics to a tempo approaching mellow, though the staccato vocals and  sharp guitar riffs give the song its requisite edge, and "Few Things to Share" is one of the album's slowest tracks as well as its darkest, vocals snarled over a languid but oppressive rhythm section. With an aesthetic that draws on aggressive breakbeat and jungle rhythms as well as unapologetically metal guitar riffs, this is an album that manages to appeal in equal measure to drum 'n' bass and hard rock fans; it will especially appeal to fans of the new breed of industrial metal represented by groups like Rabbit Junk. Check out Matamachete online at www.matamachete.com.

ARTIST: BlipVert
ALBUM: Stop:Skronk:Explode!
LABEL: D-Trash Records
REVIEWER: Matthew J.
DATE: 2-10-09

BlipVert is the solo project of Will Redmond, who also plays in a number of other projects, including experimental act Cartridge and minimalist dub act E. Priest. Redmond's solo material runs the gamut from video game music to drum 'n' bass to ambient, but all uniquely spliced together and sped up into a frantic and punishing blur of ever-changing sounds and rhythms. Dub music is just about the last genre anyone would ever describe as frantic, but Redmond manages to make it happen on the first track; as "Peace with Ummem" segues from flute trills and footsteps to studio buzz and drumbeats, the rhythm turns into something fast and distorted but nonetheless possessed of an instrumental reggae flavor. It sounds like Lee "Scratch" Perry getting pulverized by a runaway freight train. "Big Boy Slip" is all abrasive distortion and sudden tempo changes, and "Barbwire Girls" slips seemingly at random between high-BPM hardcore techno and washes of ambience. As if the frenetic nature of his music wasn't enough, Redmond also makes several of his compositions  extra creepy with what sound like disturbing playground rhymes, as on "Couch of Soob" and "Tao to a Feel." While Redmond is certainly capable of moving into mellower territory, as on the purely ambient outro "Georges" or the Art of Noise-inspired "Bye Judy, Don't Make 'em Sad," the pure unpredictability of this release is enough to drive a typical techno listener to self-harm. Noise freaks, on the other hand, will eat this up.  Visit ww.synapsecompound.com for more information on BlipVert and Will Redmond's other projects.

"BlipVert is Will Redmond as microcosm, cramming all of his diverse talents into a condensed blur of electronics that borrows from everything:  jazz, glitch, metal, IDM, funk, classical, and probably at least a few genres that haven't even been named yet. Holding advanced degrees in musical composition and teaching, he performs on a range of instruments, from keyboards to flutes to guitar, in a number of other projects, including avant-garde jazz duo Cartridge and abstract dub project E. Priests, but on his newest BlipVert release, the aptly titled Stop:Skronk:Explode! (DTRASH104), all of his diverse influences come together. Unpredictable and frenetic, it's a musical stream of consciousness, a real-time window into the mind of an eclectic and well-educated composer."

D-TRASH CDs sale & MATAMACHETE review at CRUCIALBLAST

We like this greate distro and label that is out of the States who makes some intense grindcore noise sounds... CRUCIAL BLAST Records who also ! is having D-TRASH as a 'featured' label of the month in their online merch shop.  A bunch of our cds are there on sale price and available here like  "Virus Has Been Spread - ATR Tribute" the DTRASH100 DVD , CONTRA Enter the Winter, FAUX PRIDE "Slapstick Bitch", VARIOUS "Rising Tide Compilation"   UNITUS "Cross Contamination"  and also ! The SCHIZOID "All Things Are Connected" disc which we're sold out of now.    Heres' a comment about us in this featured section and also a new review they did of the MATAMACHETE disc that is new in their stock.

http://www.crucialblastshop.net/index.php?feat=1

"Our new pick for our featured label at the Crucial Blast shop is the Canadian label D-Trash. D-Trash has been releasing tons of digital hardcore, electronic punk and heavy breakbeat releases on both CD-R, CD, and Mp3 formats for years, and I have been a big fan of their heavier titles, many of which incorporate elements of extreme metal and industrial noise into their beat-driven sounds. Two of my favorites are Schizoid and Unitus - Schizoid's manic fusion of DHR style digital hardcore and spastic electronic black metal makes for some of the label's most ferocious music, as does the ultra-distorted breakcore of Unitus, whose Cross Contamination CD is a punishing exercise in hypnotic breakbeat annihilation that would appeal to fans of both Godflesh's later dub/break driven experiments as well as the ferocious jungle/breakcore of Bong-Ra. All of these following releases on D-Trash deserve investigation from fans of heavy, underground electronic music though."

MATAMACHETE // TANIN NO KAO [DTRASH109] REVIEW

"At first, you could almost mistake Matamachete for another industrial-influenced nu-metal band like Static-X and Mindless Self Indulgence. Who could blame you? This Swiss band combine modern hard rock riffs, industrial thrash, melodramatic vocals, and big, dumb stadium-ready hooks in a manner that is very similiar to those bands, and on the surface Tanin No Kao has a late 90's industrial metal feel that borders on being anachronistic. But this came out on D-Trash and has the endorsement of black metal/digital hardcore lunatic Schizoid, so I stuck with this and gave it a harder look. And you know what? This is still modern industrial metal, no doubt about it, but Matamachete do make a weird mix of sounds that begins to make more sense in the context of the D-Trash aesthetic. The modern metal attack will be a huge turnoff to anyone that requires more extremity in their musical diet, but mixed in with all of the aggro bluster and post-Ministry riffage are strains of the DHR sound and spastic jungle and sliced-up samples that make this pretty interesting if you have a taste for this sort of stuff. As the album progresses, many of the riffs veer into hardcore punk territory, which gives some of these songs more violent edge edge than you'd expect to hear, and then there's the singers pronounced Swiss accent, which will either simply add to the weird vibe of this album for you, or completely piss you off. Digital hardcore and heavy hardcore are both assimiliated into Matamachete's electro-metal cellular mass, mashing together distorted breakbeats, industrial rhythms, splattery jungle breaks, riffs that wouldn't sound out of place on Sick Of It All's Scratch The Surface or Madball's Set It Off, and hardcore techno. That description does look pretty nuts when you read it. Again, Matamachete are going to be way too close to nu-metal territory for alot of you out there, but if you do dig industrial metal and the D-Trash label, you should give this a listen. It is probably the most accessible release that I've ever heard from D-Trash, and I can easily fantasize about legions of angry Hot Topic youth getting turned on to the more brutal sounds of Unitas and Schizoid via Matamachete. If only!"

FEB 2009: DTRASH121,2 from MIND DISRUPTION & SUBVERT PUNX 4-WAY SPLIT

DTRASH122 VARIOUS ARTISTS (World) / Subvert Punx 4-Way Split
4 punks from all over the world (Distonn/Russia vs. Clip/Belarus vs. Midi Fister/USA vs. Disbreakz/Croatia) decided to make a record/split featuring their vision of subversive breaks. To spice things up, the record cover was drawn by Simon Gane, which makes this record 100% underground. Subvert glitchy IDM jungle breakz meet punk diy vibe. This is breakcore.

German duo MIND DISRUPTION gives us another full-length, rumoured to be their last? - An 18!-song disc that pulses in overdriven misanthropic industrial noisebeat-metal. Knar / Mr. Genetor - Split CD
CD-R/digital download, D-Trash Records, 2008

Knar / Mr. Genetor - 'Split CD'

Knar and Mr Genetor, two noise-mad Canadian producers of electronic lunacy, have combined their efforts to present this (very imaginatively named) split CD. While Mr Genetor is a relatively new addition to D-Trash's stable of artists, Knar has been at work for quite some time - his 2000 release, "Neo Industrial Zombie", has been lauded as a great example of trashcore/breakbeat mayhem - especially as it was produced entirely on a C64!
This lo-fi approach is not as evident on "Split CD". While the production quality remains minimal, even primitive at times, it is still crisp and clean. Except, of course, where the static bursts of brown noise are supposed to appear and fry your synapses. To be perfectly honest, this is one of the better-assembled albums of this genre on the market. "This genre", of course, refers to that grey area falling between erratic, complex glitchiness à la Squarepusher and semi-industrial breaks in the vein of Panacea. To complicate matters, there is also the undeniable presence of some serious downtempo ambient atmosphere (that would not be considered out of place on an Autechre record) to contend with, too. In other words, fairly standard IDM fare - but seriously listenable, unlike much modern electronica that all starts to sound the same halfway through the CD.
The album itself (a rare thing, with split discs, to be treated to a full 13 tracks when the majority of artists make similar projects a quick five or six track EP) possesses a wonderfully protean feel - growing from deeply atmospheric, through frenetic breakbeats and finally emerging as a mature, melodic sound over the last few tracks. There is no one highlight that can be identified on "Split CD" - whether viewed as a holistic entity or as individual offerings, Knar and Mr Genetor have created one of the better examples of contemporary noisy IDM available today.

Here's a cool write-up we found about FAUX PRIDE's great 2008 release "Slapstick Bitch" on the CRUCIAL BLAST RECORDS webshop.  This grindcore/crazycore label distro puts out a ton of great material as well as stocking thousands of the finest titles of underground extreme music (including some DTRASH, which are available to purchase through the shop).  About the FP disc they said:

FAUX PRIDE   Slapstick Bitch   CD   (D-Trash)
"If you explore the D-Trash catalog in depth (which with literally hundreds of releases in their catalog is no mean feat, let me tell you), you'll discover just about every possible known form of underground electronica and industrial music, everything from dystopian sound-collage and 80's style industrial to hardcore rhythmic noise, digital grindcore, black metal influenced breakcore, and everything in between, usually leaning towards the noisier and punk-influenced end of the spectrum. There's one project that recently released a new album on D-trash that actually combines many of these different sounds, a one man band called Faux Pride who has just released his third and apparently final album called Slapstick Bitch on the Canadian label. The goofy title, adolescent, gore-splattered album artwork and erratic mix of styles will probably turn a lot of people off, but I dug this album. The Manchester-based Faux Pride combines fierce gabber rhythms, harsh noise, brutal digital grindcore, weird soundscapes and LOTS of heavy, distorted breakbeats, cut up and sliced into jarring chunks of sound and edited back together into abrasive blasts of dark rhythmic sound. Noise and breakbeats are at the core of this disc, with distortion bleeding through everything, even the spoken word samples, and the only periods of calm that Faux Pride allows through the course of the sixteen songs on Slapstick Bitch are momentary fields of minimal ambience that appear between tracks. The tracks are mostly instrumental, and the only vocals that appear come from recycled film samples, sampled Gwen Stafani vocals, and other pilfered recordings, chopped and processed and looped over the grinding rhythmic noise and harsh breakcore collages. All of the heavy layers of distortion, noisy programmed blastbeats and huge, block-rockin' breaks remind me of the Curse of the Golden Vampire debut that Alec Empire did with Justin Broadrick and Kevin Martin of Techno Animal, but Faux Pride goes for a much more chaotic and spastic plunder-blast assault than COTGV. Fans of the harsher Digital Hardcore sound will love it."

DEC 2008: DTRASH#120 new CONTRA album now released

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DTRASH120 CONTRA (Canada) / Red Squirrel Black Squirrel
His 6th album for DTRASH, this guy is a proto-post-DHC-genius, with the way his beats interweave a discerning look into the world of all things cyberpunk. Once tongue-in-cheek breakcore, her material at this point is an otherworldly avantgarde collection of illbient beats noises and soundscapes, definitely influenced by his explosion of new material and releases through D-TRASH sublabel CONTRA Recordings (contra.dtrashrecords.com).

Phallus Über Alles - Les Femmes de la Guerre
CD-R, D-trash Records, 2008   www.phallusuberalles.net

Phallus Über Alles - 'Les Femmes de la Guerre'

For those who aren't familiar with this american band yet, don't misunderstand the name: Phallus Über Alles aren't machos, they're girls, they're feminists, and they're pissed off! So they attempt to express their anger against the contemporary world (and more specifically against the male-dominated hierarchies) by performing some raging digital hardcore - electro punk.
"Les Femmes de la Guerre" is their first record to be released on the Canadian label D-Trash Records, since their first album, "Iron Woman", was published in 2004 by Fatal Recordings (Hanin Elias' label), and the recipe doesn't seem to have changed very much since that time.
So this new EP CD contains 7 tracks : "Fuck the Radio" (a potential hit, but not really fitting into the standards of broadcasting as you can guess), in its original version and in a "flaccid", censored radio edit ; "Brawl at the Boys and Girls Club" in two remixes respectively performed by Robad Pills (a breakcore producer based in Florida) and Hansel (another american band from the D-Trash catalogue, who plays a mix between hip-hop and electro-industrial), and in a quite surprising dub mix made by Phallus Über Alles themselves ; "Beefed Up" (which has a more "poppy" feeling at the beginning and then turns into breakcore) and "Fakecore Outro" (a short and harsh technoïd instrumental track). The whole thing is packaged in a "Soviet" artwork (red stars, cyrrilic letters, and so on).
Globally, "Les Femmes de la Guerre" is a pretty well-produced EP, but isn't really enough to satisfy those of us who are waiting for a Phallus Über Alles new album since a while. Let me get this straight: this record isn't going to renew the genre, but without a doubt it's gonna kick some ass.

Matamachete - Tanin No Kao
CD, D-trash Records, 2008 www.matamachete.com

Matamachete - 'Tanin No Kao'

The members of this Swiss band define their own music as a mix between punk, drum 'n' bass and industrial. Reading this statement, one could easily be led to believe that Matamachete is just another one of these digital punk, Atari Teenage Riot wanna-be bands which are often described this way. In this case, just listen and you'll quickly find out that you were wrong...
Matamachete's unique sound is mainly punk and harcore-based (old-school American hardcore to be more precise), sprinkled with some hard-techno beats, drum'n'bass/breakbeat programmings and a few synth lines. That means that the guitars and vocals are basically more over-mixed than the electronics. Speaking of punk and hardcore influences, Matamachete's music is full of an energy and a primal rage which are very much typical of these genres - you can feel them into the harsh screamed vocals and the guitar riffs, which are as they always should be in this music style: simple and tough. Their lyrics express lots of anger, oppression and frustration, but also a huge will to survive and to keep their head held high while facing the pain and the unfairness of this world. Well, not very original, one could say, but obviously really efficient and powerful. As a matter of fact, once you put this CD into your player and press 'play', you can't stop head-banging until the end!
The album's title, "Tanin No Kao", and the eponym track (one of my personal favorites on this record), contains Japanese words and seems to be inspired by the samurai way of life and code of honour (though I can't be sure of this as I am not fluent in Japanese). However that may be, to sum things up, this record's general atmosphere is pretty dark, cold and clinical, as you can easily guess by seeing the artwork, which deserves to be mentioned: the cover photo shows a girl shot in the eye by a high-tech syringe. The result is beautiful and disturbing, just as Matamachete's music!

DTRASH104 - BLIPVERT - STOP:SKRONK:EXPLODE
http://www.gothtronic.com/?page=23&reviews=5332

"Originally blipverts were a kind of new high-speed, high-intensity television commercials which caused the nerve systems of certain viewers to overload. Now, this is really the effect that struck me when listening to the album 'Stop:Skronk:Explode of this American madman called BLIPVERT. In earlier days, when I listened to the songs of Kid 606, they beat me to a jelly. Cutting 50! songs into pieces and rebuild them into a song of four minutes, drove me already up the curtains. BLIPVERT takes it even one step further. He manages to throw overboard every single form of song structure and creates 'something' with a combination of noise, breakcore and ambient soundscapes. It sounds to me like there is a kind of intergalactical top 40 from another Milky Waysystem that is rumbling to us at a speed of a thousand miles per hour. This goes way too far for me! It might just be unique, but I'm never through with this BLIPVERT -cd. This is - in a matter of speaking - the most raw electronic record I have ever heard. After this electronic-deathride you will be almost death and in need for quick respiration."
